The point is to try to farm as little as possible in the early game. It might seem tempting, to try to get ahead of the curve by grinding ore in the early game and saving up a little extra to get one more bonus to ease the difficulty, but simply making it one dungeon higher the hard way sees such massive increases in gold and ore loot that grinding early levels is extremely inefficient.

For a level 1 Treasury, you will reach 50% tax at 10K gold. Level 2 Treasury = 50% tax at 15K gold. Level 3 Treasury = 50% tax at 20K gold. Level 4 Treasury = 50% tax at 25K gold. And the grind is slooow. A full grind from level 1 to somewhere in the castle leves / third boss, can take one to two hours. And the loot may be something like 2030 ore and 67k gold. The ore isn't even enough for a single upgrade and the gold barely covers a single upgrade at the blacksmith.

What to you mean, the town progress is the same for all the party members. The host upgrades his town, which is used for the party, but the guests also get the same amount as the host and can immediatly use the ore in their singeplayer runs. The guests town gets the same amount of unlocks as the host. Only character unlocks are gated i believe. 1.

If you've not found the thief yet, looking for him and unlocking the tavern gives 2 drinks by default, some of them give some nice benefits early on that could help. It's very easy to grind game with ranger since long time with blood rites, good statues, drinks and attune mobs and bosses with book and monster.
